He hasn't touched his pint in twenty minutes.
It's sitting exactly where the barman left it, going warm. He leans forward, elbows on the table, eyes fixed on a television screen mounted too high on the wall. His jacket is still on. He arrived ten minutes before kick-off and hasn't taken it off since, as if removing it might jinx something.
The pub is rammed. There are men here who took the afternoon off work and aren't admitting it. There are boys young enough to be their sons who don't fully understand yet what they're watching. Only that their dads are acting strange and the whole street seemed to empty out an hour ago.
Nobody is talking.
That's the thing about Glasgow and football at moments like this. The city that is never quiet goes completely silent. Not the silence of nothing happening. The silence of everyone holding the same breath at the same time.
On the screen, dark blue shirts. A stadium in France. Tens of thousands of Scottish voices. In here, complete silence. Nobody has touched their drink in twenty minutes.
That was 1998.
That was the last time.
The man with the warm pint is in his twenties. By the time Scotland plays in a World Cup again he will be in his fifties. He doesn't know that yet. Nobody in this pub knows that yet. Right now all they know is that Scotland are at the World Cup and anything is possible and the whole city is holding its breath.
Maybe you know someone who was in that pub. Maybe you were that person.
Twenty-eight years later, on a Sunday morning in June, Glasgow woke up still believing. Scotland beat Haiti 1-0. The wait is over. The man with the warm pint can finally take his jacket off.
Now, in todays edition:

A legendary taco spot from Dumbarton is opening in the West End this Thursday.

Scotland Fans Put Traffic Cone on Boston Statue
Scotland now has a new unofficial twin city…
Scotland fans officially conquered Boston on Saturday by raising the ceremonial cone on a statue of Boston's former mayor Raymond Flynn.
This makes Boston the unofficial twin city with Glasgow, where the Duke of Wellington has worn one for years.
Fans hope that they’ve started a new tradition in Boston and the cone will remain for years to come.

Insanely Popular Taco Spot Opens in The West End
Dumbarton has been keeping a secret and Glasgow is about to find out what it is.
Big Taquero has built a devoted following in Dumbarton under owners Dave Summertime and Gerard Warrender. Locals have been raving about it and now it's coming to the city.
The pair have confirmed they are opening a second location in The Hidden Lane, Finniston on Thursday 18th June.
The menu will follow the original — fun twists on Mexican classics including tacos, burritos and taquitos — with plans to add grilled meats including rump, sirloin and lamb belly.
The Hidden Lane. Thursday 18th June. Be there.
Could Your Son or Daughter Be The Next Theatre Star?
But there’s a catch.
Glasgow's Pavilion Theatre has announced junior auditions for this year's pantomime, Goldilocks and the Three Bonnie Bears.
Here's what you need to know:
Open to young people aged 9 to 15
No prior experience or preparation needed — hopefuls will learn a short routine on the day and perform as part of a group in front of a panel
Auditions take place Sunday 23 August at the Pavilion Theatre
Previous productions have welcomed around 85,000 visitors over the holidays
Many past junior performers have gone on to train professionally
Here's the catch:
Pre-registration is essential
Places are capped at 350 due to demand
The pre-registration link goes live on Tuesday 30 June
If you've got a young person at home with a flair for the dramatic (I know I certainly have…unfortunately she’s to young) and let's be honest, most of them have — this is worth bookmarking right now.
Restaurant of the Week: Sebbs

Most restaurants use big signs to attract customers in. This one hides under the stairs.
There's a staircase on Miller Street that most people walk past without noticing. Find the red door. Follow your curiosity. Go down.
At the bottom, Sebb's. Dimly lit, tucked beneath Margo, with the kind of atmosphere that makes you feel like you've been let in on something. The room is classic American diner meets underground club. Exposed brick ceiling, herringbone floors, red and green leather booths running the full length of the room to a bar glowing at the far end.
The food is small plates, built for sharing, built for ordering too many of. The hotlink is the thing to start with. Smoky, punchy, exactly the kind of dish that makes you immediately flag down the server and order another.
Wines on tap. Cocktails that mean business. A sound system that makes you want to stay long after you've finished eating.
Bookings recommended.
